What are "DK-Challenges" and why they have so much potential

Nintendo basically made an achievement system and barely anyone talks about it. If more games get those, then it could be a lot of fun!

For everyone who doesn't know what "DK-Challenges" are, they got announced in the last Nintendo Direct in June 2026 and are available for Nintendo Switch Online Owners. They are basically achievements. You have certain tasks and if you fulfill them you earn a digital card with an image on it. Tasks vary from simply clearing a level in Donkey Kong Country to beating the final challenge of Donkey Kong Bananza without upgrades. Some were easy and others did take me a lot of tries. The rambi race challenge in DK Bananza was really hard for example.

The concept is cool and I am glad Nintendo decided to implement something like achievements into the system and not only inside some of their games. The problem however is that it is time limited. Those challenges will be gone in September and who knows when and if they will appear again.

If these challenges get played and completed by many, I can imagine that Nintendo will make more challenges for other games and maybe make them available forever. Having these challenges in others franchises like Mario, Splatoon or Metroid would be a lot of fun and there could be so much variety.

Splatoon for example could have many cool challenges. Beating Single Player Levels in a certain time, get x amount of kills with bombs in an online match, reach a certain rank in Salmon Run and so on. I don't have any creative ideas right now, but there is a lot of potential here and in many other games!

If Nintendo decides to expand on this, then I think this could be better than the achievements on Xbox or Playstation, since you get Switch Profile images as well for clearing all challenges. Having a reward for completing achievements makes the whole ordeal feel worth it, instead of just having a Platinum Trophy that you can't do anything with.

All in all, if Nintendo decides to pursue this challenge system more, make them available forever and implement them for more games, then Nintendo will finally have an achievements system, at least for their first party games. And I think that's exciting!
